happy ratters & barn hunt

Happy Ratters & Barn Hunt are two scent sports where dogs are trained to find live rats housed in industrial grade ventilated PVC tubes. The dogs learn to tell the difference between tubes with rats, empty tubes, and tubes with rat litter.

In Happy Ratters, the tubes are hidden amongst everyday household items like buckets, boxes, and packing paper.

Barn Hunt involves hiding the tubes in bales of straw.

Both sports are a scent based sport only- no rats are harmed! The dogs are only trained to alert to the presence of a rat, and there are lots of rules & regulations in place to protect the health & safety of our beloved rat partners.

Happy Ratters private lessons & drop in classes are offered year round and take place in the indoor training studio.

Barn Hunt is offered seasonally spring through the fall. Private lessons and drop in classes are held in a safely enclosed, covered space next to the training studio to protect humans, dogs, rodents, and the straw from the elements.
